We like growing the heirloom varieties of toms, & most of these need staking. We’ve come up with a quick & simple system , that can easily be packed away in Autumn & then set out in a new position. We simply use a length of sheep netting, about 9m. long, & fix it to existing posts or bang in warratahs to hold it up. We plant a tom at each wire, & if needs be we can thread a bamboo stick in to extend the height later on. The advantages of this system are that it is secure, & offers numerous places to fix the stems to. The area also makes a little micro-climate, if you put it in a u shape.
