We are having a great season for Strawberries, in part this is because we dug up the old bed, in August & planted the sturdiest runners in the new bed, with a good feed of manure. Our bed is a moveable wooden frame, which we use to raise the soil level a bit. When the plants are well established we add a mulch of straw or sawdust, to keep the fruit off the soil.  It has 2 plastic hoops of piping attatched, we fix bird netting over this as soon as the fruit start to ripen.
