Used coffee grounds can be scattered around tender seedlings to help to keep the slugs & snails away. So far it seems to be working.

We have a number of bricks & concrete tiles in the garden as stepping stones, & the thrushes frequently use these as their anvils, so it’s probably worth making sure that you provide a few hard surfaces around the place. A word of caution though, it can be hazardous walking on snail shells in bare feet.

The other useful thing is to leave clay pots or similar, upturned, but propped up a little, snails seem to congregate in such places.
